Thomas Whitaker ... The Design of Piled Foundations, Second Edition focuses on the theories which have been advanced to predict the loads which piles will carry, both singly and when used in groups to form a piled foundation. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an explanation of the utilization of piles. Subsequent chapters discuss the types of piles and their construction; pile driving by vibration; the calculation of the ultimate bearing capacity of a pile from soil properties; the settlement of single piles and the choice of a factor of safety; and piles in soft soils. Other chapters describe pile testing; piles in groups with vertical loading; horizontal forces on piles and pile group; and the durability of piles.

Foundation Design discusses fundamental concepts in the design of foundations. As with the author's previous work, the AJ Handbook of Building Structure, the emphasis is on practical matters and, while every architect may not aspire to more complicated designs, with the aid of this book he will be able to talk with more authority to his engineer.

The book begins with an introduction to the properties rocks and soils, including sands and gravels, clays, and silts and peat. This is followed by discussions of the site investigation process, soil mechanics, and the principles of foundation design. Separate chapters cover foundation types (spread foundations and piles); foundation hazards and construction problems; and underpinning. Examples of foundation design are presented, such as simple bases, a column on the edge of a building, and examples of piling. The final two chapters discuss specifications for mass bases, reinforced pads, and trench foundations and pile caps; information to be given when inviting piling tenders; and the supervision of site works.

ENERCALC Structural Engineering Library v6.16.8.31 [Size: 233.4 MB] ... The core of ENERCALC are calculation modules. Dating back to 1983 when the Structural Engineering Library was released as a set of spreadsheet templates, our modules are designed as “fill-in-the-blanks” style of interactive programs. Simply type in a value and the resulting analysis or design is instantly there for your review.

All modules in Version 6 conform to IBC 2006/2009/2012/2015, CBC 2007/2010/2013, ASCE 7-05/7-10, ACI 318-05/08/11/14, ACI 530-05/08/11/12, AISC 360-10, NDS 2015, 2012 & 2005.
The calculation module list is an ever-expanding set of structural calculations that provide analysis and design for the elements of a building. As requests are received from our users we develop additional modules ... and make use of the proven steel, concrete, timber, finite element analysis, and other engineering “solvers” we have developed.

Essential to any project are the standard construction products that the engineer will employ to develop the final structure. ENERCALC provides databases of all typical rolled steel sections, sawn wood and engineered lumber sections, material grades for steel and wood and small databases for concrete block and rebar. In addition the user can create their own steel section databases and also mark “favorite” items in all databases to simplify the work according to their most frequent needs.

ENERCALC software provides well designed calculation reports for all of its modules. Using the full capabilities of modern printers we combine highly readable font styles with well laid out calculation reports and integrated graphics.

The goal of our reports is to provide clarity and efficiency. This benefits the reviewing engineer and governmental plan check reviewer by providing well laid out, concise and thorough report that details the structural design. New technology has given us the gift of low cost color on printouts, and this benefits us all by allowing us to incorporate contrasting colors to call attention to warnings or overstress conditions.
All printouts conform to 8.5” x 11” typical United States paper sizes, and the user is also free to customize title block layouts and add company logos and a P.E. seal.

A basal reinforced piled embankment consists of a reinforced embankment on a pile foundation. The reinforcement consists of one or more horizontal layers of geosynthetic reinforcement installed at the base of the embankment.

A basal reinforced piled embankment can be used for the construction of a road or a railway when a traditional construction method would require too much construction time, affect vulnerable objects nearby or give too much residual settlement, making frequent maintenance necessary.

This publication is a guideline (CUR226) for the design of basal reinforced piled embankments. The guideline covers the following subjects: a survey of the requirements and the basic principles for the structure as a whole; some instructions for the pile foundation and the pile caps; design rules for the embankment with the basal geosynthetic reinforcement; extensive calculation examples; finite element calculations; construction details and management and maintenance of the piled embankment. The guideline includes many practical tips. The design guideline is based on state-of-the-art Dutch research, which was conducted in cooperation with many researchers from different countries.

Jetties, piers and other marine structures constructed in exposed locations require careful assessment of their hydraulic loads. Increasingly trade economics are leading to larger ship sizes and existing and new port locations for these vessels require longer jetties in significantly deeper water. In these instances construction of protective breakwaters becomes substantially more expensive, so in some cases jetties or their approach trestles are being constructed in exposed locations without breakwater protection.

The use of piled raft foundations has significantly increased over the last few decades since taking into account the contribution of the raft to the overall bearing capacity enabled the engineers to design much more efficient piled foundations which perform as well as the conventionally designed ones with significantly lower number of piles. However, although many researchers have been studying on this subject, a user-friendly design procedure is still not available in the literature. This book, therefore, offers two different simple methods to estimate the settlements of the piled raft foundations. Utilizing the charts provided in this book, the settlement of a piled raft foundation can be obtained by simple hand calculations in the first method while it can be calculated by computerized analysis in the second one. This book should be especially useful for the geotechnical experts and/or engineers looking for a simplified method for the analysis of piled rafts and academicians who are interested in thesubject.

Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundations is a practical guide for structural and geotechnical engineers as well as graduate students working in foundation engineering. The author provides practical methods of analysis and describes in detail various foundations, including simple beams on elastic foundations, and very complex foundations such as mat foundations supported on piles. Methods for fast and easy hand analysis in addition to methods for exact computer analysis are presented. Most of the methods are for three soil models: Winkler foundation, elastic half-space, and elastic layer. Numerical examples throughout the book illustrate the applications of these methods.

Key Features: -Offers simple formulas and tables for the analysis of beams free-supported on Winkler foundation and elastic half-space as well as applications to the analysis of complex beams and many types of continuous beams -Describes in detail the little-known method of initial parameters that allows the analysis of indeterminate systems with elements supported on Winkler foundation -Covers a new and very simple method of combined analysis of 2D and 3D frames with individual foundations by modeling the system soil-foundation with equivalent line elements and without requiring special software -Introduces a series of new methods/algorithms such as the analysis of composite beams and plates on elastic foundations, combined analysis of walls with continuous foundations, and combined analysis of walls supported on frames with continuous and individual foundations
