From The Back Cover: Now in its 4th edition, Manual of Engineering Drawing is a long-established guide for practicing and student engineers to producing engineering drawings and annotated 3D models that comply with the latest BSI and ISO standards of technical product specifications and documentation. This new edition has been updated in line with recent standard revisions and amendments, including the requirements of BS8888 2011 and related ISO standards. Ideal for international use, it includes a guide to the fundamental differences between the relevant ISO and ASME standards, as well as new information on legal aspects such as patents and copyright, and end-of-life design considerations. Equally applicable to CAD and manual drawing, the book includes the latest developments in 3D annotation and the specification of surface texture. Its broad scope also encompasses topics such as orthographic and pictorial projections, dimensional, geometrical and surface tolerancing, and the duality principle, along with numerous examples of electrical and hydraulic diagrams with symbols and applications of cams, bearings, welding and adhesives. Seen by many as an essential design reference, Manual of Engineering Drawing is an ideal companion for students studying vocational courses in technical product specification, undergraduates studying engineering or product design, and professional engineers beginning a career in design.

MATLAB-the tremendously popular computation, numerical analysis, signal processing, data analysis, and graphical software package-allows virtually every scientist and engineer to make better and faster progress. As MATLAB's world-wide sales approach a half-million with an estimated four million users, it becomes a near necessity that professionals and students have a level of competence in its use. Until now, however, there has been no book that quickly and effectively introduces MATLAB's capabilities to new users and assists those with more experience down the path toward increasingly sophisticated work.

Basics of MATLAB and Beyond is just such a book. Its hands-on, tutorial approach gently takes new users by the hand and leads them to competence in all the fundamentals of MATLAB. Then, with equal effectiveness, it covers the advanced topics that lead to full, creative exploitation of MATLAB's awesome power. With this book, readers will: Solve more problems with MATLAB-and solve them faster * Create clearer, more beautiful graphics with control over every detail * Create their own MATLAB code * Share their work by exporting data and graphics to other applications * Develop graphical user interfaces. Based on the latest 5.x release, Basics of MATLAB and Beyond supplies both novice and experienced users the tools they need to gain proficiency, increase productivity, and ultimately have more fun with MATLAB.

Two Realistic 40-Problem Structural Depth Exams: Structural Depth Practice Exams contains two 40-problem, multiple-choice exams consistent with the NCEES Civil PE structural depth exam’s format and specifications. Like the actual exam, the problems in this book require an average of six minutes to solve. Comprehensive step-by-step solutions demonstrate accurate and efficient problem-solving approaches. Author commentary is provided in the solutions to explain time-saving shortcuts and common pitfalls. Structural Depth Practice Exams will help you to: familiarize yourself with the exam scope and format * identify accurate and efficient problem-solving approaches * connect relevant theory to exam-like problems * solve problems under timed conditions. Earth structures engineering involves the analysis, design and construction of structures, such as slopes and dams, that are composed mainly of earth materials, and this is a growth area in geotechnical engineering practice. This growth is due largely to increased involvement in designing various types of earth structures for the resources industries (slopes, impoundment structures, offshore islands, mine backfills), to the development of increas ingly large hydroelectric projects, to the need for more freshwater storage and diversion schemes, and to the need for transportation, communications and other facilities in areas where the natural earth materials are occasionally subject to mass instabilities. Although geotechnical engineering transects traditional disciplinary boundaries of civil, geological and mining engineering, the majority of geotechnical engineers are graduates from civil engineering schools. Here the geotechnical instruction has been concentrated on soil mechanics and foundation engineering because foundation engineering has traditionally been the major component of geotechnical practice. Geotechnical special ists, however, generally have acquired considerable formal or informal training beyond their first engineering degree, and an advanced degree with considerable cross-discipline course content is still considered an advantage for a young engineer entering a career in geotechnical engineering. Practical job experience is, of course, a necessary part of professional development but is readily interpreted and assimilated only if the required background training has been obtained.

Sedimentation Engineering, Manuals and Reports on Engineering Practice No. 54, is a valuable reference on sedimentation engineering and management. It provides an excellent source of information about mechanics of sediment transport and applications to the solution of sedimentation engineering problems. Originally published in 1975, Manual 54 is still considered to be the textbook on sedimentation engineering. This second edition, which includes a new index written by Professor Vito Vanoni, is also the progenitor of its companion Manual 110, Sedimentation Engineering: Theory, Measurements, Modeling, and Practice. Manual 54, along with companion Manual 110, will be beneficial to hydrologists, geomorphologists, sedimentologists, land-use planners, soil conservation specialists, and environmental, hydraulic, and agricultural engineers.

This book presents the latest developments in the area of elasto-plastic finite element modeling of solids, particulates and pressure-dependent materials and structures. It also contains problem sets, exercises and a solutions manual for instructors. Computational Methods in Elasticity and Plasticity: Solids and Porous Media presents the latest developments in the area of elastic and elasto-plastic finite element modeling of solids, porous media and pressure-dependent materials and structures. The book covers the following topics in depth: the mathematical foundations of solid mechanics, the finite element method for solids and porous media, the theory of plasticity and the finite element implementation of elasto-plastic constitutive models. The book also includes: - A detailed coverage of elasticity for isotropic and anisotropic solids. - A detailed treatment of nonlinear iterative methods that could be used for nonlinear elastic and elasto-plastic analyses. - A detailed treatment of a kinematic hardening von Mises model that could be used to simulate cyclic behavior of solids. - Discussion of recent advances in the analysis of porous media and pressure-dependent materials in more detail than other books currently available. Computational Methods in Elasticity and Plasticity: Solids and Porous Media  also contains problem sets, worked examples and  a solutions manual for instructors.
