In addition, the text now contains new, separate chapters on mineral admixtures - high-strength concrete - cement-polymer composites - fiber-reinforced concrete. As in the first edition, the authors present a unified view of concrete behavior based on basic principles. The material on workability of concrete is prefaced by a general discussion of the principle of rheology; mechanical properties are discussed from the point of view of concrete as a multiphase material; and the underlying chemistry of hydration and microstructure of hardened cement paste are emphasized.
