This pioneering aerospace engineering text belongs on the shelf of every aerospace and structural engineering graduate student and professional engineer. Originally published in 1968, the treatment remains a valuable guide, tracing each procedure in a clear, step-by-step fashion and employing minimal mathematical rigor in its examples.

The text begins with an overview of matrix methods and their application to the structural design of modern aircraft and aerospace vehicles. Subsequent chapters cover the basic equations of elasticity, energy theorems, structural idealization, Castigliano's theorem, derivation of stiffness matrices from flexibility, and constant-shear-flow panels. Additional subjects include a comparison of force and displacement methods, analysis of substructures, structural synthesis, and nonlinear structural analysis. Abundant end-of-chapter supplements provide materials for classroom use.

Base isolation technology offers a cost-effective and reliable strategy for mitigating seismic damage to structures. The effectiveness of this new technology has been demonstrated not only in laboratory research, but also in the actual response of base-isolated buildings during earthquakes. Increasingly, new and existing buildings in earthquake-prone regions throughout the world are making use of this innovative strategy. In this expanded and updated edition, the design methods and guidelines associated with seismic isolation are detailed. The main focus of the book is on isolation systems that use a damped natural rubber. Topics covered include coupled lateral-torsional response, the behavior of multilayer bearings under compression and bending, and the buckling behavior of elastomeric bearings. Also featured is a section covering the recent changes in building code requirements.

Structural Eurocodes are a suite of design codes which will harmonize technical specifications for building and civil engineering works across Europe. Their introduction in March 2010 required the withdrawal of more than 50 British Standards. The change has been described as 'the single most important change to construction standards ever'. It is expected that Eurocodes will not just dominate building design in the UK and mainland Europe, but also have a major impact on many other parts of the world. For consulting engineers, the transition in structural design procedures from a British Standard to the replacement Eurocode constitutes a major programme of work for any construction material. Concise Eurocodes: Geotechnic Design assists consulting engineers in this task, aiding them in their transition from the previous standards to the new Eurocodes, by providing a briefer and more accessible presentation of the design procedures associated with EC 7 Geotechnic Design.

The purpose of this book is to explain the philosophy set out in Eurocode 7, the new European code of practice for geotechnical design, and, by means of series of typical examples, to show how this philosophy is used in practice. This book is aimed at: • practising engineers, to assist them to carry out geotechnical designs to Eurocode 7 using the limit state design method and partial factors; • lecturers and students on courses where design to Eurocode 7 is being taught. It is envisaged that practising engineers, using this book to assist them carry out geotechnical designs to Eurocode 7, will have access to the prestandard version of Eurocode 7, ENV 1997 -I, so the authors have concentrated on the main principles and have not provided a commentary on all the clauses. However sufficient detail has been included in the book to enable it to be used on its own by those learning the design principles who may not have access to Eurocode 7. For example, the values of the partial factors and the principal equations given in Eurocode 7 have been included and these are used in the design examples in this book. To assist the reader, the numbering, layout and titles of the chapters closely follow those presented in Eurocode 7.

A collection of papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Tall Buildings (ICTB), this volume clearly explains the engineering and socio-economic aspects of tall buildings in specific areas of sustainability. The papers focus on Asian cities, where tall buildings have become a major feature of the built environment. A multi-disciplinary book, it also deals with the increasing complexity of inter-related problems that require knowledge integration from different disciplines. With interesting contributions from distinguished practitioners, academics and policy makers, the book addresses the development and application of knowledge in solving problems related to tall buildings.

Get a detailed explanation of HOW & WHY one steel is comparable to another—NO OTHER BOOK currently on the market does this;

Completely UPDATED and REVISED, the new edition includes over: • 1,000 new and updated alloys • 1,700 data changes • 5,000 alloys listed from 350 worldwide standards • Expanded table of contents and 4 subject indexes Additionally, Chapter 5 on Pipes and Tubes has been completely rewritten and reorganized. Recently revised A 240 stainless steels that now pertains to pressure vessel and general applications have been added to Chapter 8 on Wrought Stainless Steels, but are also still listed in Chapter 4 on Pressure Vessel Steel Plates. Also, there has been a significant increase of EN standards replacing former national European and UK standards. This publication assists the reader by grouping comparable steels based on their chemical composition and/or mechanical properties according to a detailed set of rules outlined in the first chapter. It also takes into account product form, application, and type of service, and aids in finding the new CEN standards that have replaced former national standards from Europe and the UK. This has changed dramatically since the publication of the 2002 edition. This product includes: • Criteria for comparing steels, including examples of the comparison process • Updated! Defining the rules of comparison, including the list of comparison rules—includes changes in this edition • Updated! Non-comparable steels (not all steels have comparable counterparts) —expanded in this edition; with new EN standards, former non-comparable steels are now comparable and vice versa. • Designation systems of ASTM, SAE, UNS, and CSA are explained with lots of examples. • Introduction to European (EN) standard steel designation systems, including steel names and steel numbers. • Latest designation changes from DIN, BSI, and AFNOR to their new CEN designations. • And Much More!
