M. G. Lay ... 944 pages - Publisher: CRC Press; 4th edition (August, 2009) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 0415472652 - ISBN-13: 978-0415472654 ...

This fully revised fourth edition of Max Lay’s well-established reference work covers all aspects of the technology of roads and road transport, and urban and rural road technology. It forms a comprehensive but accessible reference for all professionals and students interested in roads, road transport and the wide range of disciplines involved with roads. International in scope, it begins with the preliminary construction procedures; from road planning policies and design considerations to the selection of materials and the building of roads and bridges. It then explores road operating environments that include driver behaviour, traffic flow, lighting and maintenance, and assesses the cost, economics, transport implications and environmental impact of road use. It draws on Max Lay’s unparalleled consulting and operational experience in the financing, planning, design, construction, operation and management of roads in various countries. It forms an indispensable resource for transport planning, engineering, operations and economics.

This book will deal with different sections associated with bending, buckling and vibration of nanobeams and nanoplates along with systematic description of handling the complexities when nanoscales are considered. The introduction includes basic ideas concerned with nanostructures, the algorithms and iterations followed in numerical methods and introduction to beam and plate theories in conjunction with nonlocal elasticity theory applied in nanostructures. Next, the investigation of nanobeams and nanoplates subjected to different sets of boundary conditions based on various nonlocal theories will be included. The varieties of physical and geometrical parameters that influence the bending, buckling and vibration mechanisms will be summarized. Finally, effect of environments such as thermal environment, Winkler–Pasternak elastic foundations and non-uniformity etc. on the buckling and vibration mechanisms will be illustrated.

Robin Barry's Construction of Buildings was first published in 1958 in 5 volumes, rapidly becoming a standard text on construction. In its current 2 volume format Barry remains hugely popular with both students and lecturers of construction and related disciplines. The third edition of Barry's Advanced Construction of Buildings expands and deepens your understanding of construction technology. It covers the construction of larger-scale buildings (primarily residential, commercial and industrial) constructed with load bearing frames, supported by chapters on fit-out and second fix, lifts and escalators, off-site construction and a new chapter on building obsolescence and revitalisation. Functional and performance requirements of the main building elements are emphasised throughout, as is building efficiency and meeting the challenges of limiting the environmental impact of buildings. You will find the text fully up to date with the latest building regulations and construction technologies. The new edition, with supporting material at www.wiley.com/go/barrysintroduction, is an ideal information source for developing a wider and deeper understanding of construction technology.

Over the last several years, the four authors have jointly conducted research into the analysis of vibrating Mindlin plates as a collaborative project between Nanyang Technological University, The National University of Singapore, and The University of Queensland. The research was prompted by the fact that there is a dearth of vibration results for Mindlin plates when compared to classical thin plate solutions. To generate the vibration results, the authors have successfully employed the Ritz method for general plate shapes and boundary conditions. The Ritz method, once thought to be awkward for general plate analysis, can be automated through suitable trial functions (for displacements) that satisfy the geometric plate boundary conditions a priori. This work has been well-received by academics and researchers, as indicated by the continual requests for the authors' papers and the Ritz software codes. This monograph is written with the view to share this so-called p-Ritz method for the vibration analysis of Mindlin plates and its software codes with the research community. To the authors' knowledge, the monograph contains the first published Ritz plate software codes of its kind.
