Structural Eurocodes are a suite of design codes which will harmonize technical specifications for building and civil engineering works across Europe. Their introduction in March 2010 required the withdrawal of more than 50 British Standards. The change has been described as 'the single most important change to construction standards ever'. It is expected that Eurocodes will not just dominate building design in the UK and mainland Europe, but also have a major impact on many other parts of the world. For consulting engineers, the transition in structural design procedures from a British Standard to the replacement Eurocode constitutes a major programme of work for any construction material. Concise Eurocodes: Geotechnic Design assists consulting engineers in this task, aiding them in their transition from the previous standards to the new Eurocodes, by providing a briefer and more accessible presentation of the design procedures associated with EC 7 Geotechnic Design.

In keeping with recent shifts in the structural design field, this book employs an emphasis on serviceability to provide a systematic treatment of basic concepts and computational procedures for structural motion control. The book covers optimal stiffness distributions for building type structures, the role of damping in controlling motion, tuned mass dampers, base isolation systems, quasi-static active control, dynamic feedback control, and neutral network based control systems. This book is a useful reference for practicing engineers.

The purpose of this book is to explain the philosophy set out in Eurocode 7, the new European code of practice for geotechnical design, and, by means of series of typical examples, to show how this philosophy is used in practice. This book is aimed at: • practising engineers, to assist them to carry out geotechnical designs to Eurocode 7 using the limit state design method and partial factors; • lecturers and students on courses where design to Eurocode 7 is being taught. It is envisaged that practising engineers, using this book to assist them carry out geotechnical designs to Eurocode 7, will have access to the prestandard version of Eurocode 7, ENV 1997 -I, so the authors have concentrated on the main principles and have not provided a commentary on all the clauses. However sufficient detail has been included in the book to enable it to be used on its own by those learning the design principles who may not have access to Eurocode 7. For example, the values of the partial factors and the principal equations given in Eurocode 7 have been included and these are used in the design examples in this book. To assist the reader, the numbering, layout and titles of the chapters closely follow those presented in Eurocode 7.

A collection of papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Tall Buildings (ICTB), this volume clearly explains the engineering and socio-economic aspects of tall buildings in specific areas of sustainability. The papers focus on Asian cities, where tall buildings have become a major feature of the built environment. A multi-disciplinary book, it also deals with the increasing complexity of inter-related problems that require knowledge integration from different disciplines. With interesting contributions from distinguished practitioners, academics and policy makers, the book addresses the development and application of knowledge in solving problems related to tall buildings.

A Complete and Current Guide to Structural Steel Design: Fully updated with the most recent design codes, standards, and specifications, Structural Steel Designer's Handbook, Fifth Edition, provides a convenient, single source of the latest information essential to the practical design of steel structures. This comprehensive volume begins by covering the properties of structural steel and the fundamentals of fabrication and erection. Modern structural design methods applicable to buildings and other structures, such as roof systems and various types of bridges, are presented. Details on the design of members--beams, columns, and tension components--and of bolted and welded connections are also covered. Featuring contributions from renowned engineering experts, this is an invaluable working tool for structural steel designers. Based on the latest design standards, codes, and specifications: ANSI/AISC 360-10--unified LRFD and ASD specification  + ANSI/AISI S100--unified specification for cold-formed members + SEI/ASCE 7-10 wind, seismic, and live loads, consolidated into the International  + Code Council (ICC) International Building Code (IBC) + AASHTO highway bridge design standards + ASTM material standards + AREMA railroad bridge design specifications. Coverage Includes: Properties of structural steels and effects of steel-making and fabrication + Fabrication and erection + Connections + Building codes, loads, and fire protection  + Criteria for building design  + Design of building members + Floor and roof systems  + Lateral-force design  + Cold-formed steel design + Highway bridge design criteria + Railroad bridge design criteria + Beam and girder bridges  + Truss bridges + Arch bridges + Cable-suspended bridges.
