Most structures are comprised of a number of individual parts or components which have to be connected to form a system with integral load transmission path. The structural adhesive bonding represents one of the most enabling technologies to fabricate most complex structural configurations involving advanced materials (e.g. composites) for load-bearing applications. Quite recently there has been a lot of activity in harnessing nanotechnology (use of nanomaterials) in ameliorating the existing or devising better performing structural adhesives. The 10 chapters by subject matter experts look at the following issues: Surface preparation for structural adhesive joints (SAJ) + Use of nanoparticles in enhancing performance of SAJ + Optimization of SAJ + Durability aspects of SAJ + Debonding of SAJ + Fracture mechanics of SAJ + Failure analysis of SAJ + Damage behavior in functionally graded SAJ + Impact, shock and vibration characteristics of composites for SAJ + Delamination arrest methods in SAJ.

Mario Paz, Young Hoon Kim ... 634 pages - Publisher: Springer; 6th edition (November, 2018) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 3319947427 - ISBN-13: 978-3319947426.

The sixth edition of Structural Dynamics: Theory and Computation is the complete and comprehensive text in the field. It presents modern methods of analysis and techniques adaptable to computer programming clearly and easily. The book is ideal as a text for advanced undergraduates or graduate students taking a first course in structural dynamics. It is arranged in such a way that it can be used for a one- or two-semester course, or span the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, this text will serve the practicing engineer as a primary reference. The text differs from the standard approach of other presentations in which topics are ordered by their mathematical complexity. This text is organized by the type of structural modeling. The author simplifies the subject by presenting a single degree-of-freedom system in the first chapters, then moves to systems with many degrees-of-freedom in the following chapters. Finally, the text moves to applications of the first chapters and special topics in structural dynamics.

This revised textbook intends to provide enhanced learning materials for students to learn structural dynamics, ranging from basics to advanced topics, including their application. When a line-by-line programming language is included with solved problems, students can learn course materials easily and visualize the solved problems using a program. Among several programming languages, MATLAB has been adopted by many academic institutions across several disciplines. Many educators and students in the U.S. and many international institutions can readily access MATLAB, which has an appropriate programming language to solve and simulate problems in the textbook. It effectively allows matrix manipulations and plotting of data. Therefore, multi-degree-of freedom problems can be solved in conjunction with the finite element method using MATLAB.

The revised version will include: Solved 34 examples in Chapters 1 through 22 along with MATLAB codes. + Basics of earthquake design with current design codes (ASCE 7-16 and IBC 2018). + Additional figures obtained from MATLAB codes to illustrate time-variant structural behavior and dynamic characteristics (e.g., time versus displacement and spectral chart).

Precast reinforced and prestressed concrete frames provide a high strength, stable, durable and robust solution for any multi-storey structure, and are widely regarded as a high quality, economic and architecturally versatile technology for the construction of multi-storey buildings. The resulting buildings satisfy a wide range of commercial and industrial needs. Precast concrete buildings behave in a different way to those where the concrete is cast in-situ, with the components subject to different forces and movements. These factors are explored in detail in the second edition of Multi-Storey Precast Concrete Framed Structures, providing a detailed understanding of the procedures involved in precast structural design. This new edition has been fully updated to reflect recent developments, and includes many structural calculations based on EUROCODE standards. These are shown in parallel with similar calculations based on British Standards to ensure the designer is fully aware of the differences required in designing to EUROCODE standards. Civil and structural engineers as well as final year undergraduate and postgraduate students of civil and structural engineering will all find this book to be thorough overview of this important construction technology.

This book is concerned with the static and dynamic analysis of structures. Specifi cally, it uses the stiffness formulated matrix methods for use on computers to tackle some of the fundamental problems facing engineers in structural mechanics. This is done by covering the Mechanics of Structures, its rephrasing in terms of the Matrix Methods, and then their Computational implementation, all within a cohesivesetting. Although this book is designed primarily as a text for use at the upper-undergraduate and beginning graduate level, many practicing structural engineers will find it useful as a reference and self-study guide. Several dozen books on structural mechanics and as many on matrix methods are currently available. A natural question to ask is why another text? An odd devel opment has occurred in engineering in recent years that can serve as a backdrop to why this book was written. With the widespread availability and use of comput ers, today's engineers have on their desk tops an analysis capability undreamt of by previous generations. However, the ever increasing quality and range of capabilities of commercially available software packages has divided the engineering profession into two groups: a small group of specialist program writers that know the ins and outs of the coding, algorithms, and solution strategies; and a much larger group of practicing engineers who use the programs. It is possible for this latter group to use this enormous power without really knowing anything of its source.

I. Iskhakov, Yuri Ribakov ... 182 pages - Publisher: CRC Press; (November, 2015) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 149872664X - ISBN-13: 978-1498726641.

One of the main goals of a good and effective structural design is to decrease, as far as possible, the self-weight of structures, because they must carry the service load. This is especially important for reinforced concrete (RC) structures, as the self-weight of the material is substantial. For RC structures it is furthermore important that the whole structure or most of the structural elements are under compression with small eccentricities. Continuous spatial concrete structures satisfy the above-mentioned requirements. It is shown in this book that a span of a spatial structure is practically independent of its thickness and is a function of its geometry. It is also important to define which structure can be called a spatial one. Such a definition is given in the book and based on this definition, five types of spatial concrete structures were selected: translation shells with positive Gaussian curvature, long convex cylindrical shells, hyperbolic paraboloid shells, domes, and long folders. To demonstrate the complex research, results of experimental, analytical, and numerical evaluation of a real RC dome are presented and discussed. The book is suitable for structural engineers, students, researchers and faculty members at universities.

S. F. Borg ... 346 pages - Publisher: Wspc; 2nd edition (August, 1988) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 9971504359 - ISBN-13: 978-9971504359.

This book is the expanded version of the earlier (first edition) text. It presents new comprehensive rational quantitative theories (utilizing fundamental energy concepts throughout) covering the entire earthquake event from the point of view of the engineer. It starts with a mathematical analysis of an underground mechanism (the earthquake), then proceeds to determinations of the timewise and spacewise variations of the fundamental engineering damage-design parameter, the ground energy. Finally, the new theories are applied to a number of typical (actual) structural and non-structural design problems. Each chapter of the first edition has now been improved and enlarged and new chapters have been added to include recent research by the author and his graduate students.
